Like I said, I saw the DCOM word in some verbage about OPEN and nearly keeled over. Microsoft knows that a poorly designed but proprietary solution that has no competition is every bit as good as a well designed open solution that isn't yet available. That's all changing. Microsoft's dominance will start a long decline when ISO standard Java ready. The reason is simple: they will have competition and you don't get one company with total domination when you have competition. These so-called Windows terminals running off multi-user NT are going to make Windows a fantastic Java platform if Microsoft optimizes them for Java as promised. No matter what Microsoft does, they are going to have to come to terms with the fact that once again, they were at the opposite end of successful innovation. Despite owning the desktop, Microsoft has had to abandon it's own dismal technology and replace it with OpenGL, TCP/IP, TrueType, HTML and more.
