I just got an unsolicited letter in the mail touting PLSIA. Came from a guy named Brian Hicks. He edits "The Cutting Edge," a small-cap oriented news letter. He doesn't name the company, but he describes it clearly enough to let you know he's talking about Premier. FDA approval, only one, 100 units a month, etc... He likes this company to the tune of $27 in 1998 and if it adjusts to the level that other laser-techs sell at, perhaps as much as $81 by Y2K. Bases his analysis on P/S ratios of 5 to 15 (which seems somewhat optomistic to me). I wonder... at 40K per.. what will the cost per filling amortize out to? What kind of revenue stream comes to the company after the unit is placed? What are the on-going costs (to the dentist) of operating the laser? How do these costs compare with the old technology? This is not to infer that this will "no-way" become the favored means of drilling and filling (and later billing)... but it is germaine to understanding how fast that change will take place. It is also useful to remember that if the Lazer is useful only for treating caries.. that the number of people suffering from caveties continues to fall. Cosmetic dentistry is where the money is being made today. Does this have applications in that direction? Art
