Java: Write Once, Fat Chance
techweb.com

Don Sylvester, senior vice president of sales at Corel Corp., Ottawa, which earlier this year scrapped plans to deliver a Java version of its Office productivity suite, said Java has not lived up to its promise, but added: "We have to make sure that we manage our expectations. We've done a relatively poor job of managing our expectations about what's realistic for Java. It's a young language, a young area, and we've been expecting far too much. Java itself has not been compromised, it's just a PR spin. Those of us who did development in the public eye paid the price."
