Re: Board Functionality

one thing that makes SI almost unusable for me is the lack of a subject.

Brad added a feature for people who want titles/subjects. Start the first line with "Re: " and the first line is what is displayed in the board index. Sometimes this doesn't take when first posted so an edit is required for the subject to display properly. Putting the cursor in the first character of the first line and hitting backspace has fixed it for me when it doesn't work, and sometimes a carriage return also because the software strips out some line breaks.

I've been using this feature so that people will know what my posts are about before opening the post, and it takes longer for me to compose posts to add context. A few others have been using the feature also. Widespread adoption by all/most people is necessary to make this feature work.

I end up reading through many well thought out posts and without having any idea what name they are talking about since there is no reference.

Posts without subjects/titles can be difficult to determine relevance, and to what, particularly since threading is only one level deep. The recent AAPL/MSFT/NOK posts are a good example of this. What the heck are they talking about? You have to follow the entire discussion to understand. Quite frankly, I'm not going to even bother with posts like these except on the weekend.

Quoting to add context is not supported as the software strips out indentation and other formatting before posting. SI is like Yahoo in this regard, the software works against you instead of working for you. Often you need to go back into the posts and edit if you want line breaks to display properly instead of having multiple lines jumbled together.

The board format lends itself to announcement types of posts or two people talking to each other. Discussions between multiple people is unwieldy. A number of us go back to IV for this.

IV wastes time with technical problems. SI wastes time by not supporting a conversational format.
