<If you get a few would you mind telling us how you think the standards battle might unravel now.>
Well clearly the TI acquisition throws market weight to DMT as a de jure standard.
But I believe there will be a variety of flavors in the market, including the Nortel/Rockwell 1Mbps-CDSL splitterless modem. The DSP approach DOES assist the evolution of the ANSI standard.
The biggest challenge, as previously noted, for DSP solutions will be their power/heat, size and price. The LU 16000 will address both the power and price issue, and no doubt engineers at TXN, LU and ADI are all slaving over this as we speak. (I have considered the possibility of an LU acquisition of ADI, but don't know either well enough to assess the fit. Anyone?)
And as far as engineering talent, PAIR would make an awesome, if pricey, acquisition, but it would be ACCRETIVE. LU ALSO comes to mind here.

Saw "The Sweet Hereafter" (Cannes winner) and was underwhelmed. Finney however gave a command performance in Washington Square (comparable to his work IMO, in Browning Version and The Dresser).
