Dave I was at the NCD's booth at Comdex . The server was a SUN server. You can argue winterminals, NC's ... but you still need the reliable server. As Addi has stated again and again Sun is going to make money selling high end servers.

I was talking to a ISV at the booth and I asked him what he thought of the NC vs Winterm and he just said they both can do the same job but the Winterm is cheaper than the NC. The other thing I noticed is that there was no real Java applications (applets) that ran on the NC. All the applications ran on the server. This is JMHO but at the present time there seems to be no real advantage to using NC's until they get some real Java applets running. The way NCD had its system setup the NC was basically a dumb term like Winterm.

When I think of it a Winterm is more desirable for Sun since it puts a larger demand on the server than a NC that uses Java applets and if the server goes down your clients are dead therefore you need a reliable server which must be a mission critical type and MS can't deliver this so far.

It was very suspicious that NCD with its Winterm and other win stuff wasn't in the MS partner pavilion. I guess they aren't partners since they also sell NC's.

JMHO
Mike
