The Republican establishment may be hoping for some signal on Tuesday that the end is near. A new Washington Post/ABC News poll suggests that the extended primary season has damaged the GOP brand. Unfavorable views outweigh favorable impressions for each of the four Republican presidential candidates, according to the poll. Here in Franklin, voters leaving polling places said they were displeased with the options the Republicans have fielded — and depressed about the party’s prospects in November’s general election. “There’s no Republican that is lighting up the pack,” said voter Jim Perhac with a sigh. “There just isn’t. It’s too split. If you get all the Republicans behind one candidate, yeah, we could do it. But it’s not going to happen.” Perhac, a retired salesmen from Franklin, cast a ballot for Gingrich, believing him to be the most experienced contender. But he said he has resigned himself to the likely nomination of Romney. “I’m looking for the candidate who’s going to unite the Republican party. And I haven’t found him. I haven’t seen him,” Perhac said.
