Vote for Ron Paul, an obstetrician who actually understands things. It is amazing that Americans seem likely to elect either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama as president when they have Ron Paul offering his services. <In 2008, Congress overwhelmingly passed, and President George W. Bush signed, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act. Ron Paul was the lone dissenter. The legislation bars insurers from denying coverage or raising premiums on individuals who show a genetic predisposition toward particular diseases. > The lone dissenter. Only 1 person with sense.

Insurance is good for some people and bad for others. Those who are cautious, intelligent and honest pay for those who are not. It surprises me what a high proportion of people buy insurance and for such a wide range of things.

To make insurance compulsory with no reduction for low risk simply means the government forces people without problems to give money to those with problems. It would be better to leave out the "insurance" company and government and simply hand money over to the people with bad dna. The government might as well simply tax everyone and decide what medical conditions get treated. Forget the whole insurance industry. If anyone wants unapproved or special medical treatment, they'd have to pay for it themselves. That's how the New Zealand medical system works.

To include birth control as part of insurance is simply absurd. Birth control costs not much more than toothpaste. Maybe toothpaste is now part of the compulsory USA insurance world.

Thanks for that link.

I have already had 23andme.com test my dna. But that's not my complete genome. GNOM can do the whole lot for a small fee. Of course people will have their dna determined. Many people have absolutely vital information in their genome which is crucial to deciding what to do. There are genes for stomach cancer which require having stomachs removed at a young age. There are genes for haemochromatosis which are crucial to know about if having children. Along with cystic fibrosis and swarms of other genetic matters.
