*** OFF TOPIC (and not particularly funny) ***

In response to a question I received about my "Anesthesia" post, (which was shamelessly lifted from anya.com ), let me explain the reference to "Vladimir Zvegintzov".

In February 1996, an article by one Nicholas Zvegintzov titled "The Year 2000 as racket and ruse" was published in American Programmer, and is available in the archive at
year2000.com

It is one of the first and best examples of what I call "Wexlerism" (the bone-headed conviction by otherwise intelligent people that the Year 2000 problem is an overblown hoax). It contain this immortal paragraph:

Dealing with the Year 2000 problem is a simple software task. It is clear when the problem arises (at the end of the century). It is clear what it will do (confuse calculations performed with dates). The places where the problem arises are easy to find in software code (places where dates and times are represented and manipulated, places where fields of two decimal digit are used). The corrective action to be taken is straightforward (substitute a time and date representation with a longer horizon). Solving the Year 2000 problem is an exercise for the software novice.

Yep, those dates are real easy to find, Nicky, baby! And expansion is the solution? Why didn't I think of that!

Duh!
