Re: "With today's mining technologies that could be claimed about most countries in the world." Oh, I don't think so! (If you don't have gold/coal/oil/etc, etc., etc. then you don't.) Re: "You hear that they thingk Afghanistan has a Trillion in rare earths and other materaials." Yep! But they don't have anything ELSE that would be necessary to monetize the resources: rule of law (so contracts can be enforced), security (hard to mine in the middle of a war), road, rail and port infrastructure (got to get the ore out to markets), electricity and water --- can't mine without 'em. BIG differences.
