Personally I think it is less about entitlements (not that I agree with them all.. but I don't mind helping out.. BUT I hate funding the lifestyles of the best and the brightest.,.. when they aren't) and more about an unwillingness to wean ourselves from the US teat.. as I recall you have posted some thoughts on this a little more harshly ;O) but with a similar gist.. each and every government we have had federally.. despite rhetoric as kidded US a$$.. just like the line from Braveheart..
