Unions are obsolete - they were necessary in the 19th century but that's no longer true. Performing a conscientious job is the best insurance of job security. It also, with good reason, enhances a person's self-image and confidence. Anyone who needs to be part of the mob(a union) with promises that they'll have life-long job security (even if they don't show up for work most days), can consider themselves part of the problem and a drag on their fellow Americans.
