You've got to be careful using these initials.
I'm sure that 99% of people in business know that FYI means for your information. Back in the early 70's, when I was Manager of Production and Material Control at TRW Semiconductors (LA area), I had a supervisor working for me named Dave I.
At the time, I was a member of the AMA (American Management Association). I used to receive a lot of literature designed to help people improve their management skills. So I would read them and pass them on to my people. In Dave I's case, he had been going through a period of underachievement. So, I though that I would help Dave by giving him these articles.
I did that for a few weeks, and noticed that he was giving me some hard looks. Finally, I called him into my office and said that we had to talk. I asked him if there were any problems at work that he was experiencing. He said that he really didn't appreciate all those articles that I was sending him. I asked him why and he said "You always write FYI on them" and, to me, that means Fuck You I _ _ _ _ _..
I told him that FYI meant For Your Information. Once he understood that, things did improve and his performance actually improved . |
