LOL. Sorry MD et al, this is definitely a tangent but reading your post fired a couple of long dormant synapses.
This is pretty close to true but most of my 1982 brain cell have long since passed away.

It was 1982 and I was driving from San Diego to Denver with my future and current bride in an old Dodge Dart that grew up in Cleveland and was a definite beater. Due to serious rust I had duct tape holding the hood down so the road wind wouldn't blow it off.

This was somewhere that had little traffic and the roads were straight, Utah I think. She was sitting next to me with my arm around her shoulder which in this car meant no seat belt. I think there were only two sets. We were practicing tire blow out drills where if something happened she would duck down, I would whip my right hand to the steering wheel and she would assume crash position. That is a difficult situation to pay attention to speed.

I got pulled over for speeding and the officer was understandably interested in why I was driving a car with a Colorado plate, California insurance and an Ohio drivers license. Or maybe it was a California registration, Colorado insurance and an Ohio drivers licence. Anyway it was some combination that involved all three states.

He was very nice and after I showed him my leave papers he told me to slow down and sent us on our way. We were married shortly after on my in-laws back deck by a local judge just before I had to report back to SD.

<she asked us all sorts of personal questions (like what are YOU doing with someone from different STATE? really????) >
