The reason I posted that article was because I found the frame interesting. I always find interesting how differently people frame issues. I like to look at various frames because it enables me to see the issue from different perspectives and evaluate them. Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to find the frame in most presentations because most presentations are muddled because most people's take on most issues isn't thoroughly considered most of the time. This author conveniently identified his frame. Both apt and thoughtful, two of my favorite features of opinions. <g>

My interpretation of your post is that you simply prefer your own frame, as do we all.

When a religious organization can execute you, torture you, lock you up, etc. its a serious and major danger....But not buying stuff for you simply isn't oppressing you.

There's a lot of space on the continuum between execution/torture/confinement and not buying you stuff. Obviously, in our society we do not have non-governmental institutions that can do the former. But we do have institutions that can wield a pretty heavy hand, do things much more onerous than not buying you something. So, looking at the intervening space on the continuum, do you think it theoretically possible for any of our institutions to oppress someone through its actions? Or do you define "oppress" like like you do "encroach" as something that only the government has the power to do? If there is no way any of our institutions could ever oppress or encroach, then there's no point at looking for the point at which society should intervene to temper institutional power.
