Shutting you out from all contact with your society is bit different than a voluntary organization asking kids to say "On my honor I will do my best, To do my duty to God and my country, and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight." Its not that the first is a more extreme example of the same category in the 2nd, they belong in two entirely different categories. Unless membership in the Boy Scouts is mandatory, the 2nd isn't oppressive.
