I think I may have mentioned this example in the past. My company had mostly young workers who did not require prescription drug coverage as part of the medical plan we provided. Health insurance plans with prescription drug coverage were averaging over $300 per month more, so we opted out of that coverage.

When Romneycare went into effect, it became illegal in Massachusetts to have a health plan without prescription drug coverage. So now we have it included in the plan at ridiculously higher cost and hardly anyone here uses it. And when they do get drugs, the cost is usually lower than the co-pay. So in effect the insurance is useless.
