Q,

I am using Mac OS X, and when I clicked the ".TXF" format for the 8949 worksheet at IB, it downloaded a file to my Mac. TurboTax found it when I selected File->Import->From .TXF Files. Don't know what to say about your problem - I would open a ticket with IB and ask why there is no .TXF file available for your account. Mine has been there for 2+ weeks.

BTW, the .TXF import matches the .PDF file, with the exception that the gain/loss in the .TXF is rounded to the nearest dollar for each transaction, before totaling. This makes the bottom line results different by a few dollars, but close enough for me.

Also, I haven't been able to resolve the differences between IB and my spreadsheet of trade results, but the wash sale calculations are impossible for me to sort through, because I day traded the same ETFs nearly every day all year. But I have friends who used IB just as actively, and quit trading before the end of the year, so all their wash sale differences "washed out" to 0. I was able to resolve their 2011 annual statement, their .TXF import, and their starting/ending cash balances nearly exactly, so I am satisfied that IB's reporting is probably correct, and that any differences I have are suspended wash sale losses that I will pick up in 2012. They are in the noise, anyway, compared to the volume of transactions.
