I understand what you're saying. I just didn't feel like I was in the proper 'condition' to risk hurting myself - or others - most of the time when I have one of those 'outpatient' procedures like that. It does affect all people differently, for sure. I would drive to the hospital, and then the wife would drive me home. Last time, when I had rotator cuff surgery, I drove to the hospital and we called a cab to go home, because my wife is disabled now and doesn't drive. I had a neighbor and his wife go pick up my vehicle the next day.

But in many cases it is a matter of liability on the doctor, I think, which causes them to require a 'designated driver' for all those procedures.
