Apple's (AAPL) New iPad Can't Charge with Retina Display Runnng
8:10 am ET 03/21/2012 - Street Insider
Whoa, wait, how long until it runs out then? And can you get a backup battery?

The answers are a few hours and no, respectively. Following a Consumer Reports (CR) warning of the Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad running hot, there was an interesting tidbit that might be receiving less attention.

CR's reporter noted: "We also noticed that the new iPad wasn't charging while the game was running and it was plugged in. In fact, the battery continued to drain. It charged normally, however, when we weren't running a game."

TheNextWeb noted the battery drain issue wasn't just related to games, but any app which utilizes the Retina display. With four times as many LEDs and a larger quad-core processor, running the iPad all-out is too much for the 10-Watt charger.

Users might be able to invest in the 45-Watt MagSafe power adapter used for the MacAir, or really shoot the moon and go for the 80-Watt version.
