Doctors have to try to cover their butts at EVERY turn these days, which results in Billions of dollars being wasted for no other reason than to provide some cover against frivilous lawsuits.

A few years ago I was on a jury for a medical malpractice lawsuit. The plaintiff had undergone a colonoscopy that resulted in her being a quadriplegic of sorts; apparently quadriplegics can neither move below the neck nor feel pain. She couldn't move, but she felt pain. Both the doctor and the hospital were sued - the defendants split up with the doctor blaming the hospital and the hospital blaming the doctor for the outcome. To the shock of the entire courtroom, including the defendants' law teams, we voted against the plaintiff.

I've been very reluctant to even consider having a colonoscopy after that.
