"Virtual" colonoscopies are about as sensitive as the fiberoptic procedures, but the preparation is the same - and if they do find something, the person still needs to have the "real thing". As far as I know, usually they are still not covered by insurance. With a positive family history one should have colonoscopies starting at an earlier age, and at more frequent intervals. Better safe than sorry.
