What advantage do they have over others?

I think Msft is way too optimistic about their phone outlook..In the low end market, everyone has access to the same components. Manufacturing cost is determined by the volume. And then on top of the manufacturing cost, every manufacturer has to pay 30-35 a pop to Msft for Window 8 while they pay Msft 5-10 for an Andriod (patent licensing fee.. more than 1/2 of the Android maker settle with Msft already. Apple is heading that route too with the lawsuit between Apple/Samsung. Apple want to get paid for every Android sold.). So at the starting gate, each android phone has about $20-25 cost advantage on software only over Window 8 phone. And low end phone is in the $50-$250 range and gross profit margin probably is in the 10-20% range.. The software cost disadvantage that Window phone has is going to be substantial. And then part of the benefit of buying a smartphone is all the free apps that one can download. How many free apps Window phone has so far??? Window 8 itself is fragmented between x86 based and ARM based Window 8. Smart phone is probably based on ARM processor (for cost reason) and tablet probably is more based on x86 processor (more expensive than ARM based). I just don't see how an ARM based Window 8 phone can get that much of a foothold into the low end market?
