Yes I understand. I am much better dealing with individual investments than with mutual funds. Some people can ride mutual funds pretty good but I don't. I remember my biggest mistake was going all in with my 401k (from 60% stock allocation) to 90%+ in Sept 2008. I should have walked my dog instead... I subsequently made it back but it was painful on the way down.

I wish i had more choices in my 401k apart from index funds or index clone funds. I have been lobbying with our benefit admin for a brokerage window for years to no avail. Generally, benefit admin try to reduce the risk of lawsuits rather than creating a 401k that suits most employes. To avoid lawsuits, guaranteeing a middle of the road performance (via index fund choices) work,s but for performance not so much - well at least for the last 15 years it didn't.
