SENATE CONSERVATIVES FUND

Fellow Conservatives:

As I write this e-mail, most of the nation is focused on the presidential election and who will win the right to face President Barack Obama in November. While the race for the White House is critical, it's not the only election in 2012. There are several U.S. Senate seats up for grabs that are equally important.

Let me explain why the Senate cannot be overlooked.

If President Obama is defeated, we still won't be able to repeal ObamaCare and balance the budget without more conservatives in the Senate. Harry Reid and the Democrats will block us at every turn. And if President Obama wins, we must have a firewall of fearless conservatives in the U.S. Senate to stop him from completely destroying our country.

Join the Senate Conservatives Fund

This is why the Senate Conservatives Fund is working to elect principled leaders to the U.S. Senate this year. SCF has endorsed four candidates who will not only help us flip the Senate to Republican control, but also fight to save our country from fiscal ruin:

  • Josh Mandel (R-Ohio)
  • Ted Cruz (R-Texas)
  • Don Stenberg (R-Nebraska)
  • Mark Neumann (R-Wisconsin)
These leaders have been thoroughly vetted by our team and have the courage to stand up for conservative principles even when it's not popular.

In Ohio, Josh Mandel has won the Republican primary and will now take on the Democratic incumbent, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, in November.

Sherrod Brown is among the most liberal politicians in the Senate today, according to the vote rankings published by National Journal.

Brown ran for office claiming to be a "fiscal hawk" and pledging to vote for the Balanced Budget Amendment. But the national debt has gone up $11 trillion since Brown was first elected, he voted for trillions in budget-busting stimulus and ObamaCare, and has voted to raise the debt limit five times.

Josh Mandel can defeat Sherrod Brown, but we need resources to make sure voters in the Buckeye State know the truth about Sherrod Brown.

Help SCF elect Josh Mandel

In Texas, Tea Party conservative Ted Cruz faces a crowded, 8-candidate field in the May 29 Republican primary.

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is the establishment candidate in the race and is clearly the man to beat. He is known by virtually everyone in Texas and has millions to self-fund his campaign.

But according to a recent poll, Dewhurst's support has dropped from 41% to 36%, while Cruz's support has increased from 12% to 18%. That's an 11-point swing just a few months.

The Senate Conservatives Fund recently invested $500,000 in a new television commercial that highlights Ted Cruz's conservative record and lets voters know there is an alternative to Dewhurst.

Ted Cruz can win this contest, especially if he makes it into a run-off election with Dewhurst and it becomes a two-man race. But Texas is a large, expensive state so we hope to be able to invest more to achieve victory.

Help SCF elect Ted Cruz

In Nebraska, Democratic incumbent Ben Nelson (who traded his vote on ObamaCare for the "Cornhusker Kickback") recently announced he will retire this year.

Don Stenberg is by far the strongest conservative in the race and we're working hard to help him win the May 15 primary. In fact, SCF invested over $200,000 in January to air a new television commercial highlighting Stenberg's conservative record.

The Democrats have convinced former U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey to come out of retirement to run for this open seat. Kerrey is well-known in Nebraska and relatively well-liked so it's critical Republicans in nominate Don Stenberg who has the integrity and record needed to defeat Kerrey in November.

Help SCF elect Don Stenberg

In Wisconsin, longtime conservative champion, Mark Neumann, faces former Gov. Tommy Thompson in the September 14 Republican primary.

As you may know, Tommy Thompson supported President Obama's healthcare takeover in 2009, and recently said he disagreed with Gov. Scott Walker's decision to reject stimulus funds for a high-speed rail line the state cannot afford. This is not the kind of Republican leadership we need in the U.S. Senate.

Help SCF elect Mark Neumann

Each of these courageous conservatives can win if we have the resources to help them get their message out.

I encourage you to make a secure, online contribution to the Senate Conservatives Fund today. If you cannot afford to do so, please forward this email to your family and friends and ask them to help us win a conservative majority in the U.S. Senate.

Also, please visit our website to sign-up to receive our e-mail updates. If we're going to fire Obama and flip the Senate, its important that freedom-loving Americans like you stay informed and work together.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.

Respectfully,

Jim DeMint
United States Senator
Chairman, Senate Conservatives Fund
