They don't have time to watch politics closely unless it is to legalize pot. So true. The local news usually opens with a weather report, then a traffic report, then a random shooting or hit-and-run accident (most people in L.A. don't carry insurance because they're either here illegally or don't have a driver's license), then some press conference the mayor has called (he's addicted to seeing his face on the news). And you're right, there will be a story about pot. Federal raids vs. the places where it's legal; an arrest of someone buying it; kids in middle school smoking it; what the courts say, etc.
