Hi Sam

Korean Industry

I would like to believe that they will back off in light of their current financial setbacks, but frankly I doubt it. They have taken over and ruined DRAM market, the color TV market, the VCR market and the microwave oven market, plus probably many more that I a not aware of. They emulate the Japanese, but have not learned to back off before they shoot themselves in the foot. Having dealt with them for many years, my perception is that there is bitter rivalry amongst themselves, which they regard more important than the competition from a non Korean rival.
The only consolation I can give you is that they are primarily copiers rather than innovators. The Hyandai/Maxtore plant opening next year in China may upset things however.
As an after thought, Samsung has been manfacturing PC's and Lap Tops for some time. I do not believe that they have been too successful outside Korea. From what I have seen of them they are very much "me too" products at average prices.

Regards
Alan
