I just don't buy that argument. Yes, Palin has her negatives like anyone else. But, I think a strong conservative will attract as many independents as she alienates. At least. Bush, who was supposed to be the ultimate right winger, had a lot of independent voters in both terms.

The reason I think this analysis fails is the independents are largely conservative leaning. When it comes time, they all WANT to pull the Republican lever. But, in the era of character assassination, they end up looking elsewhere.
