BS, one of the virtues of the Victorian age was that they put apostrophe's in the right place. <since you put so much store in that era... and it's values.. > Standards have slipped.

The reason the Victorians were so successful was that they delivered vast improvements in civilisation around the world to the benighted hordes who were until then living in Malthusian balance with nature.

Maoris having pipis for dinner yet again were far more pleased to have an English gentleman farmer move in next door supplying meat, milk and the other accoutrements of modernity, including habeas corpus, spectrum management and all mod cons. Until then, Maoris worked on "have corpses" principles rather than "habeas corpus". They prefer the latter these days.

Virtue has cause none of the world's present woes. On the contrary, a renaissance of virtue would eliminate them at a rapid rate.

If you don't put much store in the benefits to people around the world of the Victorian era, you are not really aware of what life would have been like without it. Similarly, the American Empire of the last century has been simply phenomenal in uplifting many billions of people. Hooray and thank goodness for the Anglos.
