This is a fundamental misconception among liberals. They think people who go to the emergency room aren't being charged for their emergency room visits.

That's false. Everybody is charged.
- Some have their insurance company pay it.
- Some have their medicare/medicaid coverage pay it.
- Some get a bill and pay it out of pocket.
- Some get a bill and don't pay it.

Americans subsidize those who get a bill and don't pay it (i.e., free care). These people generally fall into two groups. The indigent without medicaid and deadbeats without insurance.
