>> So how many do the 90 meetings in 90 days?

I'm sure not many. Although, in our small town we have two locations for NA meetings where they are held multiple times daily. When I drive by either location during a meeting they are packed. Of course some may be court ordered. But not all of them.

The point is there are people who do seek treatment and those people ought to have an option.

I have suggested to one of my senators (one who is a stuck-in-the-drug-war-rut Republican) that legislation should be enacted providing that all money and property seized in drug raids be used to fund treatment programs and drug courts (instead of tanks and grenade launchers for local law enforcement).

It is just crazy to me that Republicans are fine with spending $100 Billion/year on the drug war and locking up drug criminals. Who are then released and, having had no treatment, will just become part of next year's $100 Billion. You could be giving them treatment and some portion (50%) would end up not being wards of the state, not being criminals.

The other thing that is just utterly stupid is that drug criminals often get hung with felony convictions that effectively prevent them from doing anything BUT selling drugs. You can't be hired with a felony conviction, as was so clearly evident from the Pelosi video that made the rounds last week -- the guy at the welfare office who hadn't been employed for 5 years? "You can't get a job after you've been to jail". He's right. Nonviolent drug offenders should NEVER be categorized with killers, rapists and other hardened criminals. Unless you want to create a drug dealer for life.
