What they did was take the allocation from the Feds for Medicaid, and instead of giving the people the money, they gave them insurance....

I don't pretend to know all of the details, but I am not aware of any changes to Medicaid in MA. The people getting subsidies for private insurance are those making slightly more than the medicaid levels. That is paid out of state genneral revenues, and has been a lot more expensive than was projected before the law passed.

The MA law and the Federal one have a lot in common such as the insurance mandate and the requirement that insurers accept anyone. In my opinion, both include way too many treatments in the minimum coverage. On the other hand, nobody has challenged the constitutionality of the MA law, and it was broadly popular when passed. It's approval has dropped a little, but it is still supported by the majority. They must have missed me when they took the poll.
