I personally know many people in their 50s and 60s who cannot afford health care insurance. They will never buy insurance unless the Government subsidizes its purchase. They are waiting for Medicare. Many of them drop out of the labor force and apply for SS disability so they can qualify for Medicare. Many people with pre-existing conditions are hired by the Government just so they can get insurance.
