<<koan - do you receive those regular 'oil welfare' checks from the government?>>

Of course, everyone does. We have plans where some people use them to save for their kids college education. In Alaska we all are very involved in our government/society. We collectively decide how to run our state and what to do with our resources.

We have a zillion local and state boards and commissions. We are all very active in the democratic process. As such we really do a good job of protecting our fish stocks, forests and resources.

All resources and revenues from those savings can be put in the permanent fund. Our legislature will also often put other money e.g. law suits or surpluses into the principle by legislative action. We are always putting extra money into the permanent fund.

Too bad Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and other resource states didn't think to do it. But then none of them were every run by liberals.

It is my state and my government and my society. They are our resources, so we have a right to the money.
