Q, NOW,

I run TurboTax on my Mac and IB's response about using Firefox on Mac OSX is pretty funny, because I originally used FF and nothing happened when I clicked the .TXF format. I switched to Safari and it worked fine - I could save the .TXF file to my disk.

The suggestion to use the .CSV format and import it into TT is completely worthless. TT cannot import from .CSV or Excel files. I wasted a lot of time with Inuit chat trying that approach, on IB's recommendation (this was before they had a .TXF format for my account).

I don't know what to say about your .TXF file problems. I guess I was lucky - my and all my friends' .TXF files work fine, and match the .PDF files (that wasn't the case in prior years, with the Gain/Loss worksheet).

Regarding attaching the .PDF file, or something similar, that's what I would do if I didn't have a .TXF file that worked. I used to do that in the past myself. Also, a friend who trades at IB just as frequently and has his taxes filed by a real CPA, in the past has given them the .PDF file and they just entered a 1-line summary on his Sched D, with the total proceeds, basis, and net gain. They did not attach anything. I don't know if they are doing that again this year, now that the 8949 has come out.
