No they didn't And here are the stats. 1980 passenger miles is 281,408,852 2010 passenger miles is 677,166,072 That is faster growth than the nation's population growth. Fuel prices are also much higher today than in 1980 even adjusted for inflation. And as I explained earlier... prices today are much cheaper than in 1980... before being adjusted for inflation. bts.gov
