Even then, no one would know who actually initiated the physical struggle. Zimmerman could have approached Martin, said some "dissing" words, and Martin could have reacted violently. In that case, it would still be self-defense.

Maybe.....but I don't know the law. Seems to me though that if Zimmerman continued to follow Martin after he was told not to and initiated the ACTUAL contact which resulted in the shooting, he has to bear some responsibility......hence some degree of manslaughter. But if what Zimmerman said was true and Martin approached him.......total self defense.
