A very wise man I knew mid-career said "If you don't stand up for your beliefs, nobody else will." That's about the time I stopped being a middle-road thinker and got real.

I really do hate it, though, that liberals seem to be able to separate political beliefs and friendship. It really stifles long-held friendships.
