Beg to differ (sort of).
As I understand it, the Dragon program translates the spoken word into input for a application such as Microsoft Word. NaturallySpeaking is an alternative input device. The input would be stored whether or not NaturallySpeaking is used.
By the way, these voice recognition programs do use a large amount of RAM memory. 32megs of RAM is apparently a bare minimum on a system using this early voice recognition program.

As always, I am not a tech whiz. I could be very wrong.
