No but they can stand pat and demand a fair compensation with good margins!
lol, Samsung and Hynix are first and second in market share in DRAM because they sold at a loss. Hynix has had to be bailed out several times now, with the Korean govt or a proxy for them (either Korean banks or, just this past December, the state telecom company) infusing them with money when they needed it. They are effectively "national" companies, a strategic source of national pride and employment.
But really, I don't see this as that big a deal. I wouldn't mind an overreaction by Mr. Market, something he is good at. Back to the 30s? Cool by me, amazingly I actually have some cash to buy more. Personally, I think SSDs will come to the rescue, either later this year or next year.
BTW, Hynix is another NAND supplier, and they sell to Apple. Apple wants to buy raw NAND, they don't want the higher value NAND solutions that Sandisk wants to provide. |
