"Science includes, but does not equal evolution"

Quite so. One could therefore say that Rick Santorum is hostile to the Science of Evolution without necessarily condemning him for a carte blanc rancor against Science. Even his support for something as unscientific as Creationism under the guise of "science" could merely be his ignorance trumping his hostility. If he does not know what constitutes science, then he can only be convicted of being at war against it in part--not in the whole part.

"Republican" != "creationist".

Quite so, once again. I entirely agree. I should take the liberty of explaining that the book in question assesses a wide range of non-scientific stances assumed by high profile Republicans (and the groups they support) in order to make these generalizations. But you are quite right: They are generalizations. If ten kids from one family hate ten kids from another family (but each hating a different kid)...it does not follow that any of the kids hates the entire family. Just so, if one Republican is hostile to the Science of Evolution and another to the Science of Physics and another to the Science of Astronomy...it does not follow that any or all of them are hostile to the entire structure of Science.

I agree. Some Creationists are Republicans; but not all Republicans are Creationists.

Perhaps it would be less confusing for one to say something like: Republicans A, B, C, etc. are hostile to the Science of Evolution but not necessarily to ALL the Sciences.

But the reading public DO love their generalizations--because concepts really are a major tool of learning.
