Why oh why, is the Supreme Court and others hung up on whether the government could force it's citizens to eat broccoli.
I have always been of the opinion that if a ridiculous law ever came into being, such as the argument that a law could be passed, forcing people to eat broccoli, that it would be scoffed at, laughed at, ridiculed and ignored. Simple as that. North American people are generally not stupid.
The individual mandate in the new health care bill is simply common sense. IF.....
<<<<<...A citizen must file his income tax return or be fined.
Should a citizen be allowed to choose not to pay his income tax without consequence and be allowed to ride for free on the backs of others who do? This is commerce, effects commerce, yours mine and the governments.
Why does a citizen who turns 65,Lane3, and wants to stay on a private health insurance plan, not be allowed to do so? This is commerce, effects commerce, yours mine and the governments.
Taxes and medicare have been mandated by the government, period. The question becomes if the government can mandate the paying of taxes, effecting everyones commerce and mandate medicare on it's citizens after age 65,effecting everyones commerce...why is the "individual mandate" before the supreme court? It should not be....>>>

Wordsmiths get a grip, the Supreme Court will not rule against the individual mandate. It can't.
As a person over the age of 65, I can buy health insurance in Canada when traveling in the US.
As a freemarket country, any American should be able to buy health insurance for themselves over the age of 65 also,....the reason that they can't is collusion between private insurance companies and the government...always the wealthy come out on top....lol. |
