The common sense thing to do is to strike down the mandate.

More importantly respecting individual liberty would call for striking down the mandate.

Even more importantly (since this is the courts actual job, no the other two things) following the constitution would call for striking down the mandate.

As a freemarket country, any American should be able to buy health insurance for themselves over the age of 65

I don't know why you keep coming back to this. What keeps Americans over 65 from buying their own insurance is Medicare, which crowds out the market for those over 65. PPACA/Obamcare doesn't change this. Striking down or upholding the law won't change it. Your point here is irrelevant, unless your arguing for getting rid of Medicare.
