I have several friends that were formerly big time sinners, but on having children changed their minds on permissiveness. That, and the pols that pander to them are what I think prevents common sense from winning out. Not to mention the huge special interest group comprised by law enforcement, the courts, the prison systems, the parole and probation systems and the pols that support them. This is despite the fact that despite being big time youthful sinners, they all pretty much turned out ok.
