Photo: Brett Coomer / © 2012 Houston Chronicle A few years ago, when Jack Hands was just 90, he fatally shot a much-younger man who threatened him during an altercation. Authorities confiscated two weapons involved in the 2010 fray at Hands' northeast Houston home. A Harris County grand jury reviewed the case, clearing the World War II-era veteran in September of one murder count and a possession of a prohibited weapon charge. Since then, the nonagenarian has been waiting to get his guns back. Hands is particularly attached to the heirloom shotgun that he carried growing up in Georgia "to keep meat on the table and protect the family," he said. "If that particular gun could talk, it would tell you stories." chron.com
