I'm not sure about this -- the number of people in the workforce is not really increasing --- many people seem to be dropping out and then being excluded from the calculations for unemployment.

It is always difficult to argue alternative time lines since it is all guess work. So instead of constantly talking about the Bush presidency, the left will now invent a hypothetical McCain presidency to try to compare things against? "Yeah, we do suck, but things would suck even more if McCain was President!" Not sure that's a winning line. So different from the sales slogans "hope and change." and "yes we can."
I know the strategy is to try to pretend that Obama doesn't have a horrible record of incompetence to defend.
