They don't want to be bothered with any actual facts.

It isn't politically correct, and it won't win them more votes then it loses them to actually notice the factual reality.

(Until the potential vote effect shifts from 'harm them' to 'benefit them' don't expect your standard pols to notice any scientific facts. they will remain deaf, dumb, and stupid. It benefits them to remain that way....)
