The average investor? So who is the average investor? The average investor more likely than not uses a broker to help him/her invest in todays market.
You've heard me say on a number of occasions that those investors who make most of their money shorting the market are also smarter (and possibly much smarter) than the "average investor."
Note that Novastars miscreant bashers tend to have extensive financial backgrounds, enough so they pick a SEC filing apart long before the "average investor" even knows what an SEC filing is (and I use to fall into this category). Take the misreant basher who use to post using the id "infringer" on Investor Village (now posts as "W") and was posting using the id "Covenant" here on SI before I banned him from posting here.....he claims to even read footnotes in the SEC filings, and having been an auditor, I have no doubt that he does. How many here read footnotes in SEC filings? Not many I'm sure.
And as for other miscreant bashers who have been assigned to Novastar to employ their expertise. Take the poster wavb for example. He claims to be a controller for two small companies (I would guess one of them may even be a hedge fund), or why else would he be following Novastar so closely? For those of you who still follow Investor Village, note that wavb claimed to be leaving about a month ago, but he's back to posting...Why?
Of course you all know Bankbuyer aka Studio79, there's hardly a Novastar longs post that he doesn't respond to in some deragatory manner. He's far from stupid, but he's been following Novastar and stalking and harassing anyone and everyone thats long the stock and shares their views.
Then there's batman who claims to own a hedgefund and use to work for Goldman Sachs in some capacity. He's far from stupid too, but he's been hanging around for 5+ years like the rest of his ilk.
Finally....I hope you haven't been oblivious to Marc Cohodes and his short hedge fund Rocker Partners. Did you know he employed financial analysts, CPA's, forensic accountants and lawyers to help make his case for shorting Novastar? You may also wish to note that in his recent deposition where he called Goldman Sachs MF'rs who put him out of business, he also admitted that he was wrong as many times as he was right.
Personally I believe that some of the very same individuals who are still bashing Novastar 24/7 were either affiliated with Cohodes or Rocker partners in some manner, or their efforts are so similar to Cohodes, they copied his business model or vice versa.
Bottomline, they're still "throwing stuff over the wall" just like Cohodes claimed to do at the SEC. He tried to put Novastar out of business, and the current band of miscreants are still doing the same.
Apparently they believe that targeting and firing at a company with intent to destroy is OK even if they're wrong. However, I can assure anyone reading this, if someone were to do this to me or my businesses locally, rest assured someone would be behind bars.
