Yeah.. I would like to think they would incorporate even rudimentary joint or cross bracing to reinforce the walls.

Recall a program after the Haitian EQ where an engineer was recommending a very simple 45 degree joint brace incorporated into walls and floors that would dramatically improve the overall stability of the structure during a quake.
