Funds inflow could be decreasing due to ever-popular ETFs, 1x ,2x, and 3x. People may prefer DIA, SPY and QQQ etc. rather than tied to mutual fund and get hit on distribution.

Mutual funds were popular when there was no other simple balanced or distributed investment instruments available. Through ETFs, now everyone is a mutual fund manager.

And add to that, many funds themselves invest in ETFs!
